Furnaces and boilers are the core of ROMA’s work, so we hear this every week: “Is there a rebate for my new furnace?” For most gas customers the honest answer is no. Here’s what is available, and when a different system pays you back.
Replacing a gas furnace: your rebate options
| What you install | Rebate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| New gas furnace only (like-for-like) | Generally none | No standard FortisBC rebate for existing customers in 2026 (confirm before relying) |
| Dual fuel system (heat pump + new gas furnace) | Up to $4,000 | Existing gas furnace 15+ years old; installed on or after Oct 15, 2026 |
| Dual fuel system, income-qualified | Up to $8,000 | Plus a $350 two-upgrade bonus |
| Connected thermostat, income-qualified | Up to $200 | Announced Oct 15, 2026; confirm before relying |
Old gas furnace? Price out dual fuel too
If your furnace is 15 or older, the dual fuel rebate pays up to $4,000 ($8,000 income-qualified) toward a heat pump plus a new high-efficiency gas furnace. You get a new furnace either way; dual fuel adds air conditioning and lower gas use, and the rebate covers much of the heat pump. Because heat pumps are PST-exempt while gas equipment carries 12% PST, the after-tax difference is often smaller than people expect. Ask ROMA for both prices on one flat-rate estimate.
Boilers and hydronic heat
Hydronic homes (radiators or in-floor heat) don’t fit the ducted dual fuel rebate. ROMA replaces boilers in everything from heritage houses to newer townhomes, and usually compares a high-efficiency condensing or combi boiler (no rebate for gas-to-gas, but real efficiency gains) with heat pump options that income-qualified homes may get CleanBC help for.
- A condensing boiler (95%+ AFUE) can cut gas use substantially compared with an older 80% unit.
- A combi boiler also replaces the water heater, freeing space.
- Income-qualified households should check the CleanBC Energy Savings Program first.
Smaller rebates to ask about
FortisBC has offered appliance maintenance rebates (reported as $50 per furnace or boiler service, up to $150 per household). We can’t confirm this for 2026, so check before relying on it.
When the furnace fails in January
A no-heat call doesn’t leave much time to read program rules. FortisBC excludes warranty and insurance replacements from the dual fuel rebate, and the old furnace must be photographed during commissioning. Call ROMA at (604) 704-0300 before you sign anything; service calls run seven days a week, and we can often restore heat safely while you decide.
How ROMA helps with the furnace and boiler rebates
ROMA has replaced gas furnaces, boilers and water heaters in Greater Vancouver homes since 1999, from Vancouver Specials with basement suites to heritage houses on radiators. When you call about the furnace and boiler rebates, a licensed technician starts with the facts that decide eligibility: the age on the rating plate, what fuel heats the house, whether it’s your primary home, and whether the household may be income-qualified.
You get a plain answer about which rebate fits and what it should pay, and a free, flat-rate estimate on qualifying equipment if you want one. Where a program needs an HPCN-listed contractor, we show you how to check any installer on the HPCN directory before you book. Phone (604) 704-0300 or email info@romaheating.ca.
