Frequently asked questions
Which heating rebates are open in BC right now?
As of October 15, 2026, a gas-heated home can look at FortisBC’s dual fuel heating system rebate (up to $4,000, or up to $8,000 for income-qualified households), FortisBC’s income-qualified rebates for insulation, windows and doors, bathroom fans and a connected thermostat, the province’s income-qualified CleanBC Energy Savings Program, and extra programs for Northern BC. Our complete rebate table lists every amount and its status.
What’s the newest BC rebate?
On October 15, 2026, FortisBC re-introduced its dual fuel heating system rebate (up to $4,000, or $8,000 income-qualified) and income-qualified rebates for windows and doors, insulation, bathroom fans and a connected thermostat.
Can my gas-heated Lower Mainland home get a heat pump rebate?
Yes, through FortisBC’s dual fuel rebate or, for income-qualified households, the CleanBC Energy Savings Program. The standard switching rebate ended April 11, 2025.
Who applies for the rebate?
You do, usually within six months of the paid invoice. For dual fuel, the installer also submits commissioning data and photos through DSMAlly.
Can any contractor install rebate equipment?
No. Most heat pump and dual fuel rebates need an HPCN member listed for that rebate, and gas work needs a TSBC-licensed gas contractor.
Do I need approval before the install?
For the CleanBC Energy Savings Program, yes. FortisBC income-qualified rebates recommend pre-qualification.
Is the Canada Greener Homes Grant still around?
No. Both federal Greener Homes programs have ended.
What is the new federal heat pump rebate?
Announced October 8, 2026: up to $10,000 for households below median income and $2,000 for others, expected to open in early 2027.
Do heat pumps carry PST?
Heat pumps have been PST-exempt since 2022; gas heating equipment is taxed at 12%. Confirm the current rules with the Ministry of Finance.
Can FortisBC and CleanBC rebates be combined?
Not for the same system. Bonuses and rebates for other upgrades (insulation, windows) can be added.
What are the income limits?
For four people: Level 1 up to $94,900, Level 2 up to $118,600, Level 3 up to $189,800 (Level 3 is only for switching away from gas). FortisBC limits match Level 1.
Does an emergency replacement qualify?
Warranty and insurance replacements are excluded, and the old furnace must be photographed for commissioning. Call ROMA before signing anything.
Is there a rebate to replace a gas furnace with a new gas furnace?
Not in 2026, as far as we can confirm. A dual fuel upgrade replacing a 15+ year-old furnace earns up to $4,000, or $8,000 income-qualified.
How long does a rebate take to arrive?
Usually within 90 days of FortisBC receiving a complete claim.
